Four Corners Study

Back to Projects

The Four Corners Study entailed multiple stakeholder meetings where private citizens, neighborhood associations, North Idaho College, LCDC and City of Coeur d’Alene stakeholders expressed ideas and concerns for how the area could be improved and accommodate anticipated changes.  The study was a precursor to the eventual Educational Corridor Master Planning effort.

The Four Corners Study included a number of study areas.  The major concept studies addressed:

  1. options for redevelopment of and access to the City Parking lot adjacent to City park,
  2. evaluation of potential options for narrowing of Mullan Avenue and creating structured pedestrian crossings,
  3. to develop a preferred option for the relocation of a new Museum of North Idaho,
  4. and to comprehensively study existing and future traffic needs and influences.

Incorporated into the study were also options for the extension of Garden Avenue to cross Northwest Boulevard and serve as an additional entrance into the North Idaho College Campus.  Redevelopment concepts for Memorial Field were conducted that explored more advantageous solar orientation of the field, proposed and located a new grandstand while preserving the historic grandstand and restructured event parking.  The existing Skate Park along with a small playground area were also restructured due to the influence of traffic modifications and access.
